Knockback Overhaul

Ragdolling mooks is a unique feature in City of Heroes and one of the best ways to feel super powerful. For too long, players have avoided knockback because it interrupts melee players’ DPS and spreads enemies out of AoE patches. This update attempts to make knockback more desirable and fun.

Enemies slammed into walls now take smashing damage and have a chance to become disoriented when they’re knocked back. Impact damage is separated into tiers based on distance knocked back before colliding with a wall. The impact effect is a power that’s called as if it was used by the character that knocked the target back. That means the player gets XP credit and the impact damage is based on the character’s ranged damage table. Fall damage is also a power that works similarly to wall impacts.

Every character begins with two impact tiers for nearby and distant collisions. A new enhancement set called Subaluwa has a bonus that can further upgrade this mechanic up to 3 times by:

  • Unlocking additional impact tiers for longer-distance lanches
  • Lowering the minimum distance required for each tier

New Enhancement Set: Subaluwa

This new universal damage enhancement set is focused on the new knockback impact system. With its knockback proc, it can add knockback to any attack- including knockback aura toggles. Its first tier set bonus is currently the only way to unlock additional tiers of knockback impact damage. Finally, it’s the first IO set feature an endurance drain resistance bonus.

Enhancements
  1. Accuracy/Damage
  2. Endurance/Recharge
  3. Accuracy/Damage/Endurance
  4. Damage/Endurance/Recharge
  5. Accuracy/Damage/Endurance/Recharge
  6. Chance for Knockback
Set Bonuses
  1. Unlock additional knockack impact tiers
  2. +8% Knockback effectiveness
  3. +4.2% Endurance Drain Resistance
  4. +3% Damage
  5. +2.5% Energy & Negative Energy Defense and +1.25% Ranged Defense

New Physics Engine

Particle physics have been ported from the old PhysX to the Jolt physics engine. The benefits include:

  • Improving physics performance
  • Fixing numerous physics-related crashes
  • Fixing behavior at high frame rates
  • Freeing us from dependence of Nvidia’s ancient PhysX runtime

Unrestricting Supergroup Base Editor

Who likes restrictions? Anyone? Since we’ve decided not to recover the base raiding mechanic that was disabled by the live devs, we see no reason to restrict the supergroup base editor. Room placement and clipping restrictions have been removed, ceilings can now be removed, and base upkeep tax is now free.

We’ve also added storage to apartments. Since apartments are shared with all characters on one account, the storage can be used to share items as well. No more emailing items to yourself. We also added self-explanatory apt_music and apt_reset_portal commands.

Aggro

Enemies beyond aggro cap will now attack targets in range without persuing them. This means ranged enemies will take pot shots if you stand within range of them.

Other New Stuff

  • Added Borderless Fullscreen mode
  • Power Tray now displays actual keybind text instead of numbered sprites
  • Sharpen Claws no longer affects Judgement

Tweaks

  • Enhancement Catalysts (1 Alignment Merit + 1.5M Influence)
  • Alignment Merits can now be converted directly for 5M Influence
  • PvP IO cost reduced from 35/30 Alignment Merits to 25
  • x10 Enhancement Converters now cost only 1 Alignment Merit

Primalist

General
  • Pack Frenzy now grants a full Primal Energy bar instead of consuming one
  • Rejuvenate grants 3 Primal Energy (up from 1)
  • Inexhaustible now grants Slow and Endurance Drain Resistance
Prowler Form
